Introduction

Alright, listen up. The names Blake Garrett  and I’ve got something that I need to get out in the open. Something happened to me a few days ago and as a result of it… I got placed into this place, this… mental facility. So… if you’ll take the time to listen to my little story, I’d be more than happy to tell at least one person it.

Alright, here’s the deal, I’m sure you know the time period that it is, but in case you failed that class in school, I’ll give you a little update. It’s the year 2024, Wednesday, May 8th. On Thursday, May 1st this all happened. You see, our Scientists have finally discovered the way to successfully clone Humans, was a pretty awesome discovery in my opinion, but of course, there were also those… Religious folk, who claim that God created man to live and die and that what we were doing was disgracing God. Yeah, I believe in God, but I also believe that he gave us the knowledge to comprehend life or death, that he gave us the ability to decide what we want to do, not just leave it all up to him. I’m sure he’d like us to do what he wants us to do and all, but sometimes, disobeying makes you happier.

Anyways, yes, I worked for the Company that discovered this, though I didn’t quite like the whole idea of it, wouldn’t have it done to myself. I was one of the top Scientists too, I’m sure they had a good reason for cloning me anyways despite me telling them I didn’t want it to be done, like I said earlier, sometimes disobeying is something people enjoy doing. I’ll begin back on the 1st of May, when we finally created a successful, living Human Clone that didn’t die within the first few minutes of breathing Oxygen. I’m sure you’ll enjoy.

Chapter 1

The sound of my alarm clock woke me up that morning, as it did every morning. Man, I hated waking up in the morning so much, the whole alarm clock thing annoyed the hell out of me, the sound of it just made me angry, I couldn’t even stand hearing it in commercials on the T.V or the Radio, that’s how much I hated it. I had it set to go off at 7:00 am, which gave me about an hour and a half to shower, eat, get dressed, all those morning things you do before work or School.
Living in the scientific future which we do, has its ups and its downs, more ups than downs, but still had its downs. As the alarm clock went off it triggered other machines I had set to happen when I hit the snooze of off button, which included the blinds in my all window bedroom to fly up to the ceiling, letting every ounce of light possible in on me. Wasn’t too pleased at that, but knowing myself, I had to do this to get myself out of bed so I’d be at work on time. Snooze button keeps the alarm off for about 5 minutes, which gave me enough time to realize I had to get up, cause after those 5 minutes it buzzed again which forced me out of bed, cause I knew I wouldn’t get back to sleep with the blinds open. So I climbed out of bed and stretched a little as the window directly in front of me tinted and a series of smaller windows appeared on it, displaying my emails and appointments I needed to make today. I never had a single morning when I didn’t have 5 to 10 emails to read while I ate, I couldn’t believe I had become someone so important, never dreamed of it.
Turning away from the window sized monitor, the smaller windows disappeared into the light that it was letting through and became a window again. I moved out of my bedroom and was glad as I was overtaken by a bit of darkness, I think the only room in my entire apartment with more than 2 windows was my bedroom, don’t know why I chose that room to sleep in, guess I knew I’d need the sunlight to get me up on time. Clapping my hands, the few windows in the kitchen lit up and let the sunlight into the room allowing me to see what I was doing. Once I forgot to open the blinds and tripped over a chair, almost cracked my head open off the corner of the counter, so I installed rounded edges rather than square ones, lot safer and a lot less harmful if I do hit one.

I made myself the usual meal: Eggs, Bacon, Toast, and Orange Juice… well… I didn’t actually make it, I pressed a few buttons on my stove and it made it for me, all I had to do was crack the egg and put it into the frying pan, it did the rest. As I’m sure you can tell, I’m letting you in on some of the ups and downs of our age. Sitting down at the table I decided I’d read my emails now while I ate, which I normally did anyways, gave me something to think about before getting into the office an hour from now. One of them was from a co-worker of mine Leanna Dunn.
She was about my age and God how I loved her. No, I haven’t told her yet, I know I should, but I’m too nervous to. Anyways, me and her have been working together since the beginning of both our careers, we went to the same High School and College, took the same classes, so know each other rather well. This was the first time I’d ever received an email from her in the morning, so I was kind of shocked and surprised when I realized I had one from her. It was titled “No Subject” so I was even more anxious to find out what it was about. Clicking it with my finger while I drank my Orange Juice with my other hand, the screen shrank leaving behind only the message she had sent me. She started all her emails the same, least to me I think. She had a little heart typed out using the less than and 3 keys “<3” after her name. I found it cute. Anyways, she was emailing me this from the office, which meant she was already there, which shocked me cause normally I was there first. She said that it was an emergency and that I should get there right away. Below that she described what had happened, apparently, my boss had been shot, and I was one of the main suspects, along with her and many of the other workers there. I finished my Juice and my food and quickly ran back into my window filled bedroom to get dressed. If it was an emergency, my shower could wait.

As I waited in the elevator to get to the Garage of the Apartment Complex I lived in, my mind ran over what could have happened. The only logical thing I could think of was that one of those Religious Folk I told you about earlier that broken into the Office and shot him. I don’t know why any of the Scientists would have shot him, or why one of those Religious Folk shot him either, not like we had progressed in our studies and tests, at this point at least, so I was really worried. As the doors opened, I took out my car keys and pushed the red button, which turned the car on and pulled it out of my parking spot, made it a lot easier to find your car. As I neared it the drivers door opened and I climbed in as the door closed behind me. In the center of the dashboard, there was yet another monitor, everything these days has Monitors. I placed my thumb on the screen where it asked me to, cause that’s the security features they had. When you bought a new car, it’s memory was blank, except for how to get places. So you were required to give a DNA Sample which could have been a fingerprint, sample of urine or saliva, which gave the Car’s Computer memory of who to let use it. Apparently it was fail proof, yet cars were still getting stolen and broken into.
After it recognized my thumb print, the screen changed, showing me my most recent routes I had taken around the City, one of which being to the Office, pushing that button, the other options faded into the background and a estimated time it would take to get there would appear. After accepting that’s where I wanted to go, the car pulled out of the Garage and began to drive itself down the street towards my selected destination. What I find weird is, if they made cars able to drive themselves, then why did they still make everyone get their licence at 16 years of age. Well they didn’t force you to get it, but you couldn’t sit in a car that drove itself without one. I pushed another button on the screen which turned on the cars CD Player. I had a huge collection of CD’s in the trunk which the player read from there, and played up here. I sat back in my chair and listened to my music as the car drove me the rest of the way.

As I neared the Office, I decided to brush my teeth and comb my hair, as I was probably going to be dealing with Police Officers, and I didn’t want to look like I hadn’t slept at all, making me even more of a Suspect than I already was, so I opened the glove box which was right in front of the passenger seat next to me, pulled out a portable toothbrush and a small bottle of toothpaste. Applying it to my brush, I began to brush my teeth with one hand, and used the rear view mirror to comb my hair with my other hand. When I was done, I rolled down the window and spit out the window into the pond that I was driving passed. Placing the stuff back into the glove box and then turned off Auto-Drive. Taking hold of the wheel I steered it the rest of the way, why? I don’t know, made me feel normal I guess.
I walked up the main steps, after parking my car, to the office and opened the door. There were Police Cars scattered all over the area. They had the Parking Lot blocked off with yellow police tape, but after showing my ID to the guard standing at the entrance he pulled the tape up and let me into the lot to park. Once I was in the office I made my way straight up to the main lobby room, hoping that I’d run into someone to show me where to go. As soon as I opened the lobby doors I had a gun pointed to my face. “Woah!” I said as I shot my hands into the air, staring at the barrel of the gun that was almost drilled into the center of my eyes.
“That’s Blake, Officer” said Leanna, saving my ass once again. The Officer that was pointing his gun in my face turned to her, then looked back at me before lowering his gun. I looked over at her and smiled a bit, but she didn’t smile back. I was just trying to thank her for not letting me get killed. Another Officer walked over to me and took me into my bosses Office where the body was. All I could do was stare at the white sheet on the floor covering the corpse. My bosses name was Don Owens.
His wife, Annette Owens, was kneeling over his body crying like mad. I stood there in the doorway of his office looking at her, it was terrible. There was an Officer kneeling beside her, rubbing her back. When she noticed that I entered she stood up and wrapped her arms around me. She was still crying. Me and Don had been friends for a while, I
hadn’t gone to school with him, but the two of us quickly became friends when I started working for him. So I had gotten to know his family. I wrapped my arms around her in return and held onto her as she cried into my shoulder. The Officer that was with her stood up and walked over to me. “So you don’t know anything about this?” she asked as she pulled out a pencil and a small notepad. I looked at her with shock, I couldn’t believe this was even happening, why would anyone want to kill Don?

“No, I don’t, I just got the email this morning” I answered, I really didn’t know anything about this, but she wouldn’t have it. Just because I worked here I was automatically a prime suspect to this murder. She nodded her head, but I could see it in her eyes that she wasn’t accepting that as my answer. “I swear, Don has nothing that I could possibly want, so I wouldn’t have any reason to want him dead” I added, not sure if I should have though. I kept Annette in my arms, letting her soak the shoulder of my shirt while I continued to talk to the Officer.
“Well Annette here claims that out of all his employee’s, you and him were the closest” she stated, which I already knew, but still didn’t give me any reason to want him dead.
“Yes that’s true” I complied. This wasn’t going to get anywhere, I could tell already. She’d keep asking the same questions over and over again and I’d keep giving the same answers. She walked over and pried Annette away from me and handed her to the Officer that had shown me to the Office before she took me out.
“Alright, you can tell me now. Annette doesn’t have to hear” she said. Man, she wasn’t going to let me out of this. I was innocent, I already told her, but she was certain I was the one who shot him.
“Hear what? I already told you everything” I said, I wasn’t going to give her any satisfaction. She let out a sigh and then turned and left, leaving me standing in the hallway. I too sighed and then turned and headed back to the Lobby. Leanna was sitting on one of the couches, just staring at the ceiling. I walked over and sat down next to her. “I wonder who would have done this” I said as I looked at the ceiling too. Out of the corner of my eye I saw her nod her head.
“Seems they’re convinced that one of us did it” she stated. I nodded.
“I think they want me to confess, or something. That Officer that was with Annette seemed convinced that I had done it, because of my relationship with his family” I stated as I let out a sigh and looked down at the floor again.
“You two were like best friends, why would you kill him?” she asked, though it wasn’t as if she was pointing the blame at me, she was more agreeing with me. I nodded in agreement.
“That’s what I told them, but they didn’t believe me” I said. It had gotten way out of hand now. I had been sleeping as I’ve already told you, I didn’t even know anything of the sort was about to happen. I watched some Officers walk around the building, looking for clues that would hopefully point them away from myself, but they found nothing. The female Officer walked over to me again and stood in front of me.
“Mr. Garrett, I’m going to need you to come with me for a few minutes” she ordered and then turned around to head back in the direction she had come in. I looked up at her as she said this and sighed. Following behind her, she took me to an empty room, only thing that occupied it was a machine of some sort. I hadn’t seen anything like it before, must have been some top secret police computer thing. She flicked a switch on the side, typed something into the keyboard and then instructed me to place my thumb on the small scanner. I stared at it for a moment, till she told me again and I did so. Placing my thumb on the scanner, it flashed red, stuck a pin into my skin so fast that I didn’t even feel it, and took a sample of blood. “Alright, next I’m going to need a scan of your retina’s” she said as she typed something else into the keyboard which seemed to have make the computer rebuild itself so that it was shaped like a face mask. Placing my chin where she told me to, two small circular discs flipped up and covered my eyes. “Don’t blink… 1, 2, 3” she counted and then a very bright blue light flashed into my eyes. I kind of fell backwards from the light which had blinded me for a few moments.
“Does it really need to be that bright?” I asked sarcastically as I stood up and brushed myself off. She nodded and then took a small disc out of the front of the computer, took out the pen she had been using before and wrote my name on the front of it before slipping it into a case and putting it in a briefcase.
“Alright, you’re all done. Tell Leanna to come in. You can head back to your working quarters too, I’m sure you’ve still got some work to get done” she said as she showed me out of the room. Man, this wasn’t turning out to be a good day. I walked back to the lobby to find Leanna still sitting on the couch.
“Hey, they want you in the Cell Room 2 for some DNA scan thing” I said as I walked over to her and looked down at her.
“I sure hope they leave soon, I wasn’t planning on doing a lot of work today” she said as she took my hand that I offered to help her up and used me to stand up.
“Why not?” I asked as she smiled at me.
“I just don’t feel all that up to working today, don’t know why” she said as she walked around me towards the room I had just come from.
“Well I’ll be upstairs in our Working Area, see you there” I called back to her before she entered the room. She nodded towards me then disappeared into the room. I sighed again.

I sat at my desk for a few minutes before Leanna showed up at the door. I wasn’t really paying much attention, but she had something in her hand. As she walked passed me, I looked up at her and noticed that she had a two cups of Coffee and a Doughnut for me. “You’re too kind Leanna” I said as I took my Coffee and Doughnut from her and placed them on my desk. She smiled and took a seat next to me at her desk.
“Well I just thought that after all this, we both could use a little relaxing meal” she said as she popped the cap on her cup and began to drink it. I nodded and drank a bit of mine as well. “The last of the Cops are left, except for the Guards in the Parking Lot” she said as she took a bite of her beagle.
“What about Don’s body?” I asked.
“Paramedics were pulling in when I was leaving, they must have taken him to the Hospital for further analysis or something” she said as she booted up her computer and watched the loading bar stretch itself across the monitor in front of her. My computer was already on, so I continued typing what I had been working on already. “Oh, did you hear that Don finally made progress on the cloning?” she asked as she typed in her account name and password to get onto her computer. I stared at my monitor for a minute. He had? Why didn’t he tell me?
“No, I wasn’t aware that he had. What did he discover?” I asked.
“Well he didn’t really discover anything, he actually managed to make a living Human Clone” she answered. My eyes widened.
“What!? Of who?” I asked, I was really anxious to find out about this now. She looked up at me.
“He cloned himself, it lived and breathed for about an hour, or so he said” she stated as she looked back at her monitor. “I didn’t see it, apparently it fell down the stairs and broke its neck” she said with a small laugh. I stared at her.
“Wow… that’s got to suck” I said with a small laugh as well. She smiled a bit and drank more of her coffee. “How did you find out about this?” I asked, if anyone I should have been the one that found out first.
“He called me this morning, he had stayed at the office all night trying to figure out why our previous attempts had failed” she answered. “About 3 in the morning or something. He seemed really excited about it, wanted me to come and see it for myself right away” she continued. I leaned back in my chair, took a few bites of my doughnut and listened. “So I got up, got dressed and got here as fast as I could, but… when I got here, I found him lying dead in a pool of blood in his office, bullet holes all across his chest” she said, tears building in the corner of her eyes. I saw this and sat my doughnut down and wheeled my chair over to her. Wrapping my arms around her I held her head against my chest.
“It’s alright” I said as she grabbed onto my sleeves and cried into my shirt. I was apparently a good crying post.
“I just don’t know why anyone would want to kill him, he hadn’t done anything wrong” she said, mumbled up by deep breaths and tears. I nodded my head and rested my head against hers. I wish I could have told her who did it, and why they did it, but I didn’t know either.

We spent the rest of the day just sitting in our office on our computers. Talking about whatever we found interesting enough to talk about. When lunch rolled around, I treated her to whatever she wanted to eat, as she had bought me a second breakfast I felt I owed her something. So we went down the street to The Phoenix which was the restaurant of her choice. She liked really spicy food, and that’s what this place specialized in, as I’m sure you can tell from the name.  I think I spent over 100$ there, maybe even a lot more. She was like a vacuum, and of course she must have planned it. It was the ‘All You Can Eat’ Buffet Day, so the money I did spend was on entry and for the drinks that we went through. After about an hour of just straight eating and drinking till she was full. I was full way before she even looked it. I basically sat there the whole time watching her run up to the counters with an empty plate and come back with a full one. It was quite amusing actually, just spending this much time with her, and not doing anything work related. She seemed to be enjoying herself too. After she was full, I placed the final amount of money in the center of the table and then we left.
The day continued on, and the two of us got very bored of sitting around. With Don dead, we didn’t have any work to do. Neither of us knew what he had done to make this Clone of his live… till it tripped and killed itself… so we couldn’t continue on from where he left off this morning. I spent the remaining hours at work playing Solitaire on my computer while she slept on the couch on the opposite wall. Having been awake since 3 in the morning she must have been rather tired. I kept looking over at her, every now and then, and I’m sure you know why I was too. She was so beautiful when she was asleep. I sucked at Solitaire, I really did. I never won a single game, not even the one I was playing at that very moment. I didn’t even like Solitaire, it was just the only game on the computers that we had. I could have probably found a site to play some online flash games or something, but I was too tired myself to want to do that.

It was now about 7:00 p.m. and I was ready to go home. Normally we didn’t get off till about 8:30, but seeing as we didn’t have a boss to tell us what to do, we could have left whenever we felt like it. After all, we were the only two people in the entire building other than maybe the cops outside or the janitors. I turned off my computer and quietly moved over to Leanna. “Hey” I said quietly to her as I sat down at her feet. I don’t think she heard me, so I said it again a little louder. She heard that one. Wasn’t a scream, just a louder whisper.
“Hmm, what?” she asked in a tired voice. I smiled, even that voice was cute.
“It’s 7:05” I said as I looked at my watch. “You want a drive home?” I asked her. She smiled at me and nodded.
“Yes, thank you” she answered and then sat up. I got off the couch and helped her up and out of the building to my car. She didn’t own a car, she normally took a cab or the train home. I had her home address built into my cars computer too, mainly because sometimes when we had a project that we needed to get done, I’d go to her place, or she’d come to mine and we’d work on it after work so that it would be done on time for the next day. I told my car where to go and then turned to look at her. She was already falling asleep again.
“That tired?” I asked with a small smile on my face. She nodded with a small smile. “Alright, well I’ll wake you when we get there. Got a good 15 minutes, so get some more rest” I said before I turned to face the road ahead of me again. I wanted to listen to some music, but I knew she didn’t like the music I listened to and she was trying to sleep. After about 15 minutes or so, give or take a few as we hit some traffic getting off the highway, we arrived at her house. I gave her a little nudge on the shoulder, but that didn’t wake her up. She looked too peaceful to want to wake up. I parked the car in her driveway and then got out and walked around to her side. Opening her door, I unbuckled her seatbelt and lifted her into my arms. The only way I can describe how I carried her, would be like it was our honey moon, or we had just gotten married or something. I held her out in front of me, one arm under her neck, the other under her knee’s.  When I reached her front door, I planted my knee against the wall and rested her on that while I used my one hand to push her thumb onto the scanner. When it recognized that it was her, the door unlocked and opened for me. The lights in the hallway slowly dimmed into existence. They gave just enough light that you could see where you were going. Guess she had them set to that so that she didn’t get blinded when she came home at night.
I think she must have woken up at this point, because I hadn’t really done anything to wake her up, but she leaned up and wrapped her arms around my neck and kissed me on the lips. I was kind of shocked at this, that she would kiss me out of the blue.
“Thank you Blake, you’ve been really great” she said as she leaned her head on my shoulder. I smiled a bit before I placed her on her bed. She held onto my arm though, and pulled me onto her bed with her. My heart began to race, I didn’t know what was going to happen now. She snuggled against me and continued to kiss me. I wanted to stop her, she was tired and I didn’t know if this was her, or just her tiredness making her do this, but I had dreamt of this for a long time now, I didn’t want to stop her.
I’m sure you know where it led to though, cause I’m not going that into detail about it, you guys really don’t need to know what happened. I will say that the next thing I knew we were both naked laying in her bed. She was hugging my arm pretty tightly, which was cutting the circulation off so I was loosing feeling pretty quickly. I turned to her and gave her one final kiss on the cheek before I pulled the sheet up and fell asleep for the rest of the night.
So a disastrous day turned out alright in the end. I just wish I could say the same for the rest of the week that followed.

Chapter 2

I tell you, someone must not like me, cause even Leanna’s alarm clock annoyed the hell out of me the next morning. I swung my arm over to hit the snooze button, but I missed and fell out of the bed. She slept on the other side then I did, so her alarm clock was on the opposite side of the bed. Wish I had known that before I made a complete fool out of myself. I lay there naked on her floor for a few minutes before I saw her head peak over the edge of the bed, she looked at me and laughed. “Are you ok down there?” she asked. I laughed a little and nodded before sitting up. Course, at that point I didn’t realize I was naked, so when I looked down at myself my face turned beet red and I swear steam released off my head. I quickly grabbed a pillow off the bed and covered myself. She laughed a little more as she sat up, covering herself with the sheet from her bed. “Why so embarrassed? You didn’t seem embarrassed last night” she said as she continued to laugh.
I looked over at her and then realized what had happened last night. “You were amazing, just so you know” she said as she leaned over the bed and kissed me gently before turning and standing up so I couldn’t see her. How fair was that? She got to see me, why couldn’t I see her?
“Thanks” I said as I looked around the room, eventually finding my clothes I got dressed and followed her out of the room and into the kitchen. I didn’t find my shirt though, but not like it really hid anything. She clapped her hands and the kitchen windows opened up, letting some light into the room. Her kitchen, unlike mine, was all white, so the small windows she had installed really made the room bright.
“What would you like to eat?” she asked. I looked around the room before answering.
“Um, doesn’t really matter to me” I answered, “Whatever you feel like having” I added as I took a seat at the table. She smiled and moved to the fridge.
“Omelette sound good?” she asked as she stood there with the fridge door opened, waiting for a reply before she’d grab the eggs. I looked over to her and nodded.
“Sounds great” I said as I flicked the T.V on. She had it on the news already so saved me the time of finding the remote, or getting up and changing the channel myself.

“Yesterday morning, Don Owens, owner and founder of Genetics Logistics, was found dead in his office. Officers are holding all the employees of Don as prime suspects, but are still looking for an outside source that could have done this” said the reporter as a video behind her showed their Office. “We managed to get an interview with Don’s wife, Annette later that day. She was still pretty stricken about what had happened, but had calmed down enough to talk to us for a few minutes” said the reporter as the video behind her enlarged till it overtook the screen, and then showed the video taken when they interviewed Annette.
“I can’t believe they did that to her, I mean doesn’t she have enough to worry about with her husband dying?” I asked as I watched it. Annette looked like she just wanted to get home and cry some more, she looked as if she was trying to hide the tears so that she could give this interview. I let out a sigh as Leanna placed my Omelette in front of me. “Thank you” I said as I began to eat.
“Yeah, you’d think after her husband dying they’d wait a little while to ask her about it” Leanna responded as she took a seat across from me and began to eat as well. Though as I watched it, the sound of car came from the background and drowned out what Annette was saying. The sound was coming from the T.V though, least I thought it was at that point. I watched it still and then saw a car drive by behind her and with the split second glimpse I had at it, I was almost positive of who was driving it.
“Do you have Korin?” I asked. Korin was a Company that dealt with the T.V Air Waves, if you were subscribed with them, they gave you this box that allowed you to pause, rewind, fast-forward, enlarge, shrink, everything you could possibly do with a still picture on a computer, except with live video feeds from the T.V. She nodded and pushed a small, almost invisible button, on the top of the screen and a list of options that Korin offered appeared at the bottom. “Thanks” I said as I began to rewind the broadcast back to when the car first came into view behind Annette. I slowly let it progress till the drivers head was smack dab out in the open, then I paused it and zoomed into the man. It was really blurry so I fixed that and stared at the result. “Leanna, please tell me you see this too” I said as I tapped her shoulder with my free hand. She looked at what I had enlarged on the screen and gasped, dropping her fork which hit the corner of the table and fell to the floor.

The person we were both staring at, driving that car, was Don Owens. “How… can that be possible?” she asked as she continued to stare at the screen. I shook my head, this was yet another thing I didn’t know. I un-paused it and watched the rest of the broadcast, though I have to say I wasn’t really interested in what Annette was saying anymore. I don’t remember if we finished our meal or not, but shortly after the news broadcast was over we both jumped from our seats and ran to get dressed. Something had happened and, at that moment, we were both really anxious to find out what it was that was happening. She quickly brushed her teeth and combed her hair where as I would have done it in my car… had it been there…
“What the hell!?” I barked as we walked out the front door to find my car no longer parked in the drive-way. Man, at that point, I was so mixed up, I had so many things running through my head, and then I find my cars been stolen.
“How?” Leanna asked as she walked down the stairs to where my car should have been sitting still. “Those new security features are supposed to be like top notch” she said as she stood right in the center of the driveway. I nodded, but didn’t really have time to worry about it.
“Can I borrow your cell phone?” I asked as I looked around for no reason. She nodded and tossed it up to me. I flipped it open and dialled the Taxi Service as fast as my fingers could press the little numbered buttons. After making an order and telling them where to go, I handed her the phone again and then took a seat on the stairs to her front door, she took a seat next to me and hugged my arm.
Within a few minutes, a Taxi showed up at her house and we climbed in. The Taxi’s didn’t have a driver, it was basically the same as every other car, except for the fact that you couldn’t take control of these ones. Only thing you could do was tell them where to go using the monitor in front of you. I told it where to go and then sat back next to Leanna and waited patiently for it to get there. After about 15 or 20 minutes it pulled into the parking lot of our Office, I paid the machine in order for the door to open, and then got out. We walked up the stairs to the front doors only to be stopped by one of the guards that always stood there. Even if you knew the guard enough, they’d still ask you for ID to prove that you were who you said you were, which in this case didn’t even get us in.
“Oh, I’m sorry, but I have you both already signed in” he said as he looked at the monitor in front of him. “About an hour ago, you both signed in, Leanna 5 minutes after you Blake” he added. I stood there, even more shocked now than I was before. “And you know the rules, even if you two maybe the real ones, I’m simply not allowed to let two of the same person into the building” he said as he handed us back our ID Cards and showed us out of the office. I sat down on the stairs and stared out across the street at the towering buildings.
“Ok… well… this is… weird” I said, I kind of had a rough idea of what was going on now, but I wasn’t completely sure.
“You’re telling me. Any idea’s?” she asked. I nodded, might as well tell her what I thought.
“Well, I know this may be a little farfetched, but it’s all I can think of at the moment” I began. “What if Don, didn’t actually die? What if that body we saw in his office yesterday morning wasn’t actually him, but the clone of him he claimed tripped down the stairs and died?” I asked. She didn’t say anything, just stared at me, listening to what I was saying. “And that Don we saw today on the news was actually the real one” I added before thinking for a moment, I couldn’t even believe what I was saying, I don’t know how she was believing it. “And I bet those cops are in on it too, and that DNA Test they did, wasn’t for records, they used that to make Clones of the two of us, and they’re the ones that signed in as us an hour ago” I said. She nodded again.
“That makes some sense” she said, “But why would Don want clones of us?” she asked. I shook my head.
“That’s what I don’t know, maybe there’s something that we have that he wants, I don’t know” I answered, thinking over any possible reason he’d want us out of the picture.
“He’s one of the riches men in the world, why would he want what we have? Couldn’t he just easily buy it?” she asked. I nodded. It was true, this whole cloning industry was rather popular and made him a lot of money. As we sat there, sirens could be heard in the distance, I didn’t really pay much attention to them at first till they began to get closer. I looked up to see 2 cop cars speeding down the street, I was even more surprised when they turned into the parking lot we were sitting in. The cops jumped out, hid behind their doors and pointed their guns at us.
“Put your hands up!” they ordered. My eyes widened as they spoke to us. I nodded and raised my hands, as did Leanna. “Good, now slowly come down the stairs” the one cop ordered. After what had happened yesterday, I didn’t really want to be shot at, so the two of us descended the stairs towards the cop cars. “Now, get down on the ground” the cop ordered and we once again complied to do what we were being told. Soon as we were on the ground, the cops ran around their cars and quickly snapped handcuffs on us. The one cop hauled me off the ground and shoved me, rather roughly, into the back of his car, while the other cop did the same with Leanna and put her in the back of the other car. I looked over at her through the window, the look of terror filled her eyes and I didn’t blame her. The cops got into their cars and we took off down the street again, in the direction they had come in. Though before we pulled out of the parking lot, I saw that guard that hadn’t let us into the office standing at the front doors, a smile on his face.

I don’t remember anything else from the car ride, other than it was insanely long and boring. When we eventually came to a stop at the Police Station, we were dragged to the cells in the back and tossed into one. She was in the one next to me, so we were being separated from a series of iron bars. Soon as the cops left, we were both at the bars between our rooms. She had her arms through them, wrapped around me, as I had mine around her. “What’s going on?” she asked, I had a small idea.
“The Guard at the Office, must have called the cops on us for trying to impersonate who we really are” I answered. She looked up at me.
“Really?” she asked. I nodded.
“When we were pulling out of the parking lot, I saw him at the doors smiling at me, like he thought we were criminals or something trying to get into the Office to stop Don’s work from happening or something” I said and then something clicked in my mind. What if this was just some big scam against the two of us? What if Don didn’t want us getting in the way of his research, and by creating clones of us, he was now able to control what we did and didn’t do, while the real us rotted in jail. It was a possibility, only one I could think of at the time. Which would also explain to you where my car was earlier that morning. The clone must have come and taken it, only way anyone would be able to get it started less they had taken a finger of mine, which they didn’t cause I had all my fingers still.

The doors opened at the end of the hallway and a man walked in. “Hey you two, get back into your cells” he yelled at us and banged his gun against the bars. We quickly let go of each other and backed up to the center of our cells. “Good, now I want to ask you a few questions” he stated, but didn’t give us time to choose if we wanted to answer or not. “What exactly were you two trying to do?” he asked. I stared at him for a moment, what the hell kind of question was that?
“What do you mean, like just now?” I asked in return. He grunted and looked over at me.
“No dumb ass, at Genetics Logistics this morning. What were you two trying to pull off?” he asked again. That time it made more sense, but he didn’t have to call me a dumb ass, he was the dumb ass for not giving me a proper question to answer.
“Trying to go to work” I answered, it was the truth, but just like the officer from the Office yesterday morning, this guy didn’t accept it.
“Trying to go to work, eh? As someone you’re not” he stated, twisting around the whole story on us.
“No-” I started, but he cut me off, he was quick to speak.
“No? Well from what we heard, the real people that you’re trying to impersonate had signed into work already, so who else would you be trying to play?” he asked. Wow, was he really that stupid?
“No one, we’re not playing anyone. You don’t think that for a second that the two of us that signed in an hour before we actually got there could be the fake’s?” I asked.
“You think I’m going to fall for that?” he asked. Obviously he was that stupid. I sighed and rubbed my face with my hand, annoyed. “Just what did you want to get from Genetics Logistics then? if you won’t tell me who you were trying to fake” he asked. I grunted, this cop was just as dumb as the female one from the office yesterday, I swear they were related if their name tags didn’t state otherwise.
“We we-” Leanna began, but was cut off just as fast as I had been.
“I’m not talking to you young lady, so shut up” he barked at her.
“Leave her alone” I barked back at him, which caused him to point his gun at me.
“Going to be Mr. Hero, huh? Come on, try me” he begged, holding his gun up at me. I groaned, this was ridiculous. I could have brought up that my car had been stolen, but I was certain he wouldn’t even listen to that story. I stayed quiet and sat down on the rock hard bed they gave you, I motioned Leanna not to try and talk to the guy. She nodded and sat down too. “Hey!” he yelled at me. “I’m not done with you” he added. I looked up at him.
“Oh, well I’m done with you” I said as he leaned against the wall and closed my eyes. I was certain he was going to shoot me, I was ready for the sound of the gun firing and the feeling of the bullet piercing my chest, but it never came. I heard his feet leave the room and then heard the door close.
“Blake… I’m scared” Leanna said as she scooted over towards me, well as close to me as she could get. I opened my eyes and moved over and held onto her hand through the bars.
“I know, I am too, but I’m not giving these guys satisfaction when I’m telling the truth” I said as I looked at her with a small smile. “But don’t worry, everything’s going to be fine, trust me” I added. She smiled back and nodded.
“I do trust you” she said as she leaned over and kissed the back of my hand. I smiled at her again before leaning my head against the wall behind me and let out a sigh. It was going to be a long afternoon, I knew that much.

See what I meant though earlier? If only the rest of my week ended as amazingly as the first day did. I don’t even know what we did this night, we basically just sat in our cells talking to each other and eating the crappy meal they offered us around 6 o’clock. Wasn’t that good either, just some kind of gooey substance that made you want to throw up as you ate it, was disgusting. They also gave you like a really small glass of water to drink. I didn’t even drink it, the food was so disgusting I didn’t even eat that either. I took a few bites so I wouldn’t die of starvation, but didn’t touch the rest of it.
I don’t even know how they expected us to sleep on the beds they gave us. No sheets, rock solid, and the pillow was rock solid too, it was really horrible there. Luckily enough though, it was summer so it was really warm that night, so with the window opened I managed to fall asleep. Only sound I could hear was of the cars passing outside and Leanna breathing next to me. If we weren’t in prison I’m sure I’d have enjoyed the night a lot more.

Chapter 3

By now, I’m sure you know that I’m going to bitch about something waking me up right? Well if you guessed yes, you’re right. Though I guess I should have expected nothing more from prison where you got to do what you’re told or you’re going to get yourself into some serious trouble. But yes, I was woken up, very rudely, by that same cop as the night before, banging  his gun against the bars of our cells. “Wake up ladies” he called out. What I found weird was that out of the entire hallway of cells, the two we were in, were the only ones being occupied. He stood in front of my cell, staring at me. I was awake, but had my eyes opened only so slightly that I could just make out his image while he still thought my eyes were closed. “Hey kid!” he yelled in at me, “I said wake up” he added as he banged his gun against the bars again. I don’t know how much more of this I could take, this guy alone was making me want to kill myself already, let alone the events that had happened yesterday.
I still didn’t get up though, like I said twice before, I wasn’t going to give these guys any satisfaction that what they were doing was right. Eventually I got on his nerves and he called the Guard in who unlocked my cell. At that point I knew what was coming to me. The officer pulled out his baton, his club thingy, and smocked me right in the gut with it, that I couldn’t pretend to sleep through. Coughing heavily I quickly sat up and grabbed my stomach. Man did that hurt, but I kind of did deserve it. Hearing me kind of cough woke Leanna up from her pretend sleep as well. That’s kind of what we talked about that night. I had watched a lot of films and I just kind of assumed what was going to happen, course it did happen. I knew the cop didn’t like me at all, nor did I like him, so I knew he’d come for me first before he’d do anything to her, course I wouldn’t let him. He coughed a bit more before I looked up at him.
“What the hell was that for?” I asked him, though I knew clearly why he had done it.
“To wake you up, come on, get your girlfriend. Showers only work for an hour” he said as he turned and headed to the door at the end of the hallway, he stopped there and waited for us. The Guard unlocked Leanna’s cell and then left the room. I grunted as I attempted to get off my bed. My neck was killing me from the pillow, and now my stomach was killing. What could possibly be next? Course I had to ask. As I was walking across the room, I smashed my knee of the gate of my cell, cursing out loud I switched my arms from my stomach to my knee as now that hurt more. Just seemed everything hated me now, only making things a lot worse. Leanna came out of her cell and clutched my hand like I was Leonardo DiCaprio from Titanic and I was about to fall into the abyss known as the sea. The officer wasn’t too patient. “Hurry up already, you’re wasting your showering time” he said as he opened the door and lead the two of us to the showers.

Even the showers were as disgusting as the food they fed us. I could probably bet, and win the bet, that the entire building other than the main lobby and the officers had no housekeeping to it. Everything looked like some old castle from Pennsylvania or something that Vampires lived in. Despite the fact me and Leanna had no problem showering together, he wouldn’t let us, and I really don’t blame him, regulations I guess. He pushed me into the male side, which was indicated by the large, yet very hard to read sign, that said “Male” on it. She was put into the one that said “Female” obviously. I stood there, looking around the room, it was disgusting. The tap looked like it had some kind of fungal creature on it, I swear it was breathing. Anyways I used my shoe to move the green moss thing off the tap before I piled my clothes in the corner on the chair before turning the water on. The water was freezing, there wasn’t any soap, was hardly a shower at all. I stood there for like 5 minutes and then I had enough, I turned off the water, used the really old looking towel they provided to dry myself off before getting dressed and heading out of the shower room.
Leanna wasn’t out yet, so I just stood there looking at the Cop and waited for her. Just looking at him made me want to punch his face in. His face… was just as annoying as the sound of alarm clocks were. I should have punched him, but I didn’t. After a few more minutes she came out running her fingers like a comb through her wet hair. “You’ll be lucky to get any food now” said the cop as he began to move again, this time towards the breakfast hall. As we followed behind him, I tried not to look at the other people that were here, I could tell by a few of them that we didn’t belong here. We looked like regular people that had just gotten caught up in something, which was not very far from the truth, they looked like pro-wrestlers, ripped beyond belief with scars and what not all over them.
The officer choose our seat for us and then sat us down next to this red haired guy. At first glace you could tell that his hair wasn’t naturally red, but he must have died it so much that it became his natural colour, cause the colour of red that it was, wasn’t a natural colour of hair, less of course you lived in some Anime Fantasy World… Anyways after the officer left, the man started talking to us. When he opened his mouth I wanted to gag as his breath smelt like Cigarettes or something. “So…” he began, seemed like he wasn’t much of a talker. “What’re you in here for?” he asked, his dark eyes that looked almost the same colour as his hair glanced up and down me before he shifted his position and took a good look at Leanna. I looked at him as he spoke, though I wish I hadn’t, that stench was horrible,
“Oh… lets see… Attempting a breaking and entering, identity theft, and pissing off a cop” I answered, all of which should have been fake, but no one was going to believe me now.
He grinned. “You’re just full of different things aren’t ya?” he asked with a slight laugh at the end before he held out his hand to me. “The names Bryant Richmond” he introduced himself. I hesitated to shake his hand at first, but the look in his eyes made me do it quickly after he had held it out in front of him. He looked like if you didn’t do what he said, that he’d tear you limb from limb.
“I’m Blake Garret and this is Leanna Dunn” I introduced us in return. He peered over at Leanna again and smiled.
“What’s such a pretty young lady like you doing in a dump like this?” he asked. I glanced back at her before looking to Bryant again.
“So what’re you here for Bryant?” I asked, not letting him really get an answer from Leanna. She was just as uncomfortable talking to this guy than I was.  His eyes shifted back to mine and then released my hand, slipping his back into his pants pocket.
“Raped some guys wife and daughter then killed them all” he responded. I didn’t expect that, he didn’t look like much of a rapist. I kind of swallowed my saliva, but didn’t take my eyes off of him from that point on.
“Oh, how interesting” I responded, such a stupid response at that. He nodded, least he thought it was interesting.
“Yeah, neighbour heard it all and bitched at the cops. Didn’t even get down with his daughter. They took her in for questioning, she pointed me out, and I’ve been in here ever since…” he trailed off, “planning my escape route” he finished as his plate was placed in front of him. He suddenly became more interested in his plate of mushy gooey substance, that was being passed off as food, than with us now. I kind of let out a silent sigh and then turned to face my plate of food.

Seems that bet I made earlier was still in my favour. Everything in this entire building was so disgusting and disturbing to look at. Visually non-appealing, it was gross. Me and Leanna ate peacefully while Bryant next to us ate like he was a pig and hadn’t eaten fresh slob in over a year. He devoured that stuff and then asked for more. “How can you possibly like that stuff?” I asked him after poking mine with my fork for a while. He looked over at me as he waited for his 2nd bowl.
“Well when you’re in here for as long as most of us have been, you get used to it being your only source of food” he answered and then devoured his 2nd bowl as it was placed in front of him. I groaned and kind of looked away in disgust as he ate his meal. Shortly after we had finished our meal, he began to talk to me again. I was starting to think he was a talker at this point. I really didn’t want to talk to him, I just wanted to get back to our empty hallway so we could have some peace and quiet. “So you guys planning on escaping?” he asked. I looked over at him with a sigh, I got the feeling this guy wanted in on our escape plan, if we had one.
“No, why?” I asked. He shrugged.
“Just wondering,… You guys want in on my escape plan?” he asked, though didn’t really give me a chance to respond. “I’m going to ambush one of the guards one morning while he’s taking me to the showers. Steal his pepper spray bottle and his little club thing, then make a run for it” he said. I kind of laughed a bit, it sounded rather stupid.
“I don’t think that’ll work too well” I responded. It really didn’t sound like it would work, but you never know. He grunted and went his own way back to his cell, wherever that was. We walked back towards ours as well. Though as we did, what he had said his plan was, ran through my head a few times and I thought about actually attempting it at some point. I couldn’t stand this place anymore, and I really didn’t want to have Leanna dragged wherever I was being taken. I wanted her to get out of here, I couldn’t stand how people were looking and talking to her, like she was some kind of toy for their pleasure.

I guess you can say that I finally decided to steal Bryant’s idea of escaping right then and there. As that Officer returned to take us back to our hallway I quickly lunged my elbow into the cops gut which caused him to topple over. I don’t know if it was because someone was trying to escape, or the other prisoners wanted revenge, but after that moment almost every prisoner around us began to attack the guards and the other officers. Bryant appeared as of out of nowhere and looked at me. “So you’re escaping without me?” he asked as if he was shocked, I shrugged my shoulders and grabbed Leanna’s hand and quickly bolted passed the guards that were being attacked by other prisoners. Bryant was close behind us. Just the way he was acting was like he was our best friend and we had known him for ages. Though shortly after we got out of the building, he disappeared as fast as he had appeared. I paid no real attention to where he went though, I didn’t really care too much. Me and Leanna ran out of the parking lot, trying not to get seen by any cops in the area, but it seemed they were all too busy dealing with the riot that had broken out inside. Couldn’t have happened any better.
We eventually slowed down to a walk after we had gotten quite a distance from the Police Station. I was glad to have gotten out of there.
“Blake…” Leanna said as she walked beside me. I looked at her as I continued to walk.
“What is it?” I asked.
“Why’d you do that?” she asked. I looked ahead of me and then let out a small sigh before I explained it to her.
“Because something’s going on around here… and I didn’t want you getting pulled along with me” I answered. She looked up at me.
“You broke out of prison so that I wouldn’t have to be there?” she asked. I nodded my head.
“Yes, you didn’t do anything and I don’t know why Don had to do this to you as well, just because you’re my partner doesn’t mean he can treat you the same as me” I said. “And I couldn’t stand how the people in there were looking at you, disgusted me” I added. She kept looking at me.
“Blake, you didn’t have to” she said as she looked ahead of her again. “I’d gladly go anywhere with you, good or bad” she said as she wrapped her arms around my arm. I smiled at her.
“Thanks, but I really didn’t want you going to prison with me” I added. Just then a Cop car pulled up beside us and the passenger window rolled down.
“Hey you two, get in” ordered the driver. I looked in the window and saw Bryant driving.
“You stole a Cop Car?” I asked as I opened the back door and climbed in after Leanna. Bryant smiled and sped off down the street.
“Yeah, figured we could use a getaway vehicle” he said as he drove. Leanna smiled a bit.
“Thank you Bryant” she said, he smiled into the rear view mirror at her before looking back to the road.
“Not a problem. So where do you guys want to go to?” he asked as he stopped a red light. I looked over at Leanna before answering.
“We can’t really go anywhere” I answered. “We’ve got clones of ourselves wondering around the city, so if we return to our homes the cops, for one will probably look there first, plus if our clones see us, they’ll probably call the cops as well…” I added with a sigh. Things really didn’t look up for us. Bryant nodded his head.
“Alright, I’ve got a place we can stay for now. If you guys don’t mind” he offered. I nodded.
“That would be great, give us some time to think over what’s been going on and get some actual rest” I stated as I leaned back with a sigh. Leanna hugged onto my arm and rested her head on my shoulder. I leaned my head over against hers and just looked out the window in front of us.

It was getting late by the time that we finally came to a stop. Bryant parked the car in a houses driveway and then got out. “Alright, this used to be my grandmother’s house till she died. We can crash here tonight” he said as he walked up to the front door. The house looked really old, like it wasn’t even up to date with the science that every other house in the neighbourhood had. I woke up Leanna and then we headed into the building behind Bryant. The house was rather dark, and the fact that it was getting late didn’t help that much either. As tired as I was, I really wanted to get to the bottom of what was going on up at Genetics Logistics and I couldn’t wait any longer to find out either.
The fridge surprisingly had some food still in it, and it seemed still fresh to eat. Bryant was eating it at least, then again he looked like he would eat anything as long as it wasn’t going to kill him shortly after, but with half the food he was eating at that very moment, looked like it would kill him shortly after he ate it. Leanna had fallen asleep in the Master Bedroom that Bryant so graciously let the two of us have. He didn’t seem too worried about sleeping on the couch, and I was happy that he wasn’t going to be anywhere near her. I basically sat at the kitchen table for hours on end just staring into the abyss. I really was getting tired of everything that had happened to this point, and was sure I wasn’t going to like what was going to happen soon enough, and I’m sure you won’t be either…
After a few hours, I snapped back to reality and glanced at the clock on the very old looking Microwave and was surprised to see that it was only quarter to 8, but as soon as I realized what time it was, I got an idea. I quickly sat up and headed to the bedroom where Leanna was sleeping. I sat next to her on the bed and shook her very gently. “Leanna?” I asked very quietly, she wasn’t sleeping very heavily and woke up after one time. She looked up at me with a yawn.
“What is it?” she asked. She could tell by the look on my face, I assure you, that I was about to try and do something. “What are you going to do?” she asked as she sat up and looked directly into my eyes. I let out a soft sigh.
“I’m going to break into Genetics Logistics” I said. I was serious, I wanted to find out exactly what was going. She continued to look at me and then nodded after a few minutes of silence. I knew she was going to say what she said next, but I had hoped  she wouldn’t say it.
“I’m coming with you then” she said as she continued to stare into my eyes. I smiled a bit, but knew that if I tried to stop her, she’d find a way to follow me anyways so I didn’t bother trying to stop her. Matter of fact, I preferred her to come, that way she wasn’t here with Bryant all night by herself. I still didn’t really trust that guy. We walked towards the front door and I swiped the keys to the stolen cop car off the coffee table, but almost instantly my arm was grabbed and I was stopped in my tracks.
“Where you two going?” Bryant asked as he opened his eyes and looked up at me from the couch. I looked down at him for a moment before answering.
“Just taking the car for a few hours, got to go check something out. Don’t worry, I’ll bring it back” I assured him as I wiggled my wrist out of his grasp and headed out the front door after Leanna. I don’t think Bryant cared if we took the car, he was just glad to finally be out of prison, as was I.
I pulled the car out of the driveway and drove downtown to the office. We had a few minutes till 8, so hopefully we got there before 8 so I could get a good look at these clones of ours. At about 3 minutes to 8 we parked on the side of the road next to the office. I turned off the car and took the keys out and slipped them into my pockets before turning to look at the front door of the Office Building. Any moment now our clones would be stepping out, and sure enough at about 8:02 they stepped out. Leanna gasped as she saw the two of us walking down the stairs to my car. “He’s got your car” she pointed out, I didn’t see it at first, but as she said this I looked over to where she was pointing and spotted my car in the parking lot.
“Well least it’s… in good hands” I said as I looked back at our clones. They were holding hands, acting like me and the real Leanna had before this all started to occur. So they must have known our feelings for each other, and acted a lot faster than I had ever been able to. I grumbled a bit as I watched them kiss, made me sick watching it, and I don’t even know why. What really made me mad, was that my clone didn’t even offer to drive her clone home. He just got into my car and drove off, leaving her to take a cab home.
“Wow, your clone’s really insensitive” Leanna joked with a smile. I nodded a bit with a small laugh.
“Yeah, nothing like the real me” I said as I watched Leanna’s clone climb into a cab and then disappear down the street. Looked like the cost was clear. “Ok, here’s the deal. We’re going to wait a few so that we don’t rise suspicion with the guard at the doors. We’re going to sign in and then go find Don and find out what the hell’s up, alright?” I asked, explaining to her what I wanted to do once we were in there. She nodded and then leaned back in her chair.
“What do think is his reason for doing this?” she asked me. We were both still looking at the front door of the office. I shrugged my shoulders, I didn’t really know, I didn’t really care, I just wanted to know. She nodded.

At about 8:30 we made our move, moving across the parking lot we made our way up the stairs and then inside. The guard looked at us as we walked in with a confused look to his face. “What are you guys doing back so soon?” he asked. I looked over at him and smiled a bit.
“I forgot some disc we had been working on. Wanted to give it a look over at my house to make sure it was perfect” I answered. Was a complete lie, but he bought it.
“I forgot my house keys” Leanna said with an embarrassed look to her face. The guard chuckled and signed us in and let us pass. Was easier than I thought it was.
“Hope you find your keys” he said as he leaned back in his chair and continued to read the magazine he had in his hand. We headed up the stairs into the lobby, didn’t really say much cause I wasn’t sure if Don or another security guard was watching, they might pick up something that the clones that had been working here for about a day or two now wouldn’t say. We passed by a few other workers that we used to work with, they waved at us and we waved back innocently and kept on heading up to Don’s office. Once we were outside his Office, I took a deep breath and opened the doors to find him sitting at his desk typing on his computer. He looked up and I’m sure right away he knew that we were the real us. He let out a sigh.
“Incompetent cops, can’t even do what I paid them to do” he said with an annoyed tone to his voice as he stood up from his desk and walked around to us. He leaned back against the corner of his desk and looked at us closely. “So what can I do for you two?” he asked, still sounding annoyed.
“You can start by explaining what the hell you’re trying to pull” I ordered. He chuckled and glanced at the ceiling for a quick moment before looking back at me.
“I guess I might as well tell you. Won’t do either of you any good now though” he stated as he closed his eyes and took a deep breath. I paid no attention to what he meant by that, and waited very impatiently for him to begin explaining. “You see, two days ago I made a very big discovery and I’m sure Leanna told you that I managed to have a clone of myself living for about an hour” he began to explain, but I immediately cut into his explanation.
“Yeah, that apparently tripped on the stairs and died…” I butt in. He opened his eyes and looked at me. Don’t think he expected me to know that, nor did he say anything about it, he just continued on where I cut him off.
“I knew that you two were the closest of my employee’s to getting to where I got to as well, and I guess you can say I didn’t want you guys getting in my way” he continued. I once again butt in.
“Getting in your way? Why would we get in your way?” I asked. It really wasn’t making any sense.
“Because I knew, you for one Blake, didn’t like the idea of human cloning. I knew if I told you about my discovery you’d try and prove it as false and try and halt the process” he answered. “And Leanna here, being so overly in love with you for so many years, would follow behind you, just as she’s doing now” he added. Leanna grunted.
“Then why clone us?” she asked. Don looked over at her with a chuckle.
“You two don’t get it yet?” he asked, but didn’t give us a chance to answer, “I cloned you so that I would have complete control over what you guys found out. If you got too involved with my research I’d dispose of the clones and make new ones. I couldn’t have anything getting in my way of finally getting Genetics Logistics up and running full time” he continued. “And to answer your next question, I hired those cops to keep you in prison till you died normally or committed suicide, but seems they couldn’t even do a simple task as that” he grunted as he stood from his desk and walked over to the window overlooking the parking lot. I couldn’t believe I had been best friends with this scum bag, I was so furious I was ready to kill him.
“Don, we want our lives back. We’ll quit working for you if you really don’t want us to stop you from getting yourself anywhere” I stated as I reached into my back pocket. I had snuck the gun from the police car in with me and I would pull it on him if he tried anything.
“I’m afraid you two are the only ones who have the minds capable of doing all the work for me” he said as he looked at our reflection in the window. “Besides, I like your clones better. They do as their told” he said as he turned around to face us again, a smile on his face. Just then a arm wrapped around me, covering my mouth and pulling my head back. I looked over my shoulder as best I could, only to see my clone behind me with his arm around me. Leanna’s clone had done the same to her.

“Sir, he’s got a gun” said my clone as he took the gun I had in my back pocket and tossed it across the room at Don. Don caught it and looked at it. “Doesn’t look like he’s got anything else on him” added my clone. I tried to bite into my clones arm, but he had his arm so tightly around me that I couldn’t even move any part of my head other than my eyes. Don walked over to us and pointed the gun at my face.
“Now that you know everything, I’ll have to get rid of you both” he said as he pulled back the head and pressed down on the trigger. I closed my eyes, waiting for the impact, but nothing came. I opened my eyes and my first site killed me. My heart sunk deep inside of me and I immediately began to cry. I squirmed and kicked at my clone and eventually got free of his grasp, though I didn’t really need to go far. I fell to my knees and picked up Leanna in my arms. Her eyes were filled with tears as mine were. I couldn’t even form proper sentences to say to her, I just mumbled and grumbled out words that not even I understood. I couldn’t believe this was happening, why had he shot her? She hadn’t done anything, she just followed me wherever I went, I was the major threat to him, not her. I lifted her head and rested my head against it, kissing her forehead over and over again.
“I love you Leanna, I always have, and always will” I managed to get out, my site had almost completely gone from the tears that filled my eyes. I saw her smile though and then she leaned up and kissed me on the lips before she fell limp in my arms.
At that moment my heart exploded, disintegrated, and dissolved into absolutely nothing. She was gone, the love of my life was gone. I lowered her to the ground and then stood up and looked at Don. “You bastard, you’ll pay for-” I began, but something hit me rather hard on the back of the head and I blacked out…

That’s all I remember…

Chapter 4

When my site returned to me I was sitting in the Meeting Room of the Office. This was where the employee’s came to discuss with Don what we had discovered, or what we had been working on. It consisted of a very large rectangular table that was surrounded by chairs. I was sitting in one of those chairs. Across from me was Leanna. I looked up and looked at her and for a split second, my mind told me that this was the real her, but the way she was looking at me told me otherwise. Her eyes looked like they were filled with hatred and she wanted to take it out on me. I lowered my head a bit and hit my forehead off the desk and then just left it on the desk as tears began to fall from my eyes again. I really couldn’t stand the fact that he had killed Leanna right in front of me like that, and I couldn’t do anything about it. “Oh come on Blake, stop crying already. She was going to die one way or another” said Leanna. As I heard this I grunted and stood up, looking directly into her eyes.
“Just shut up!” I yelled at her. “What would you do if I killed your Blake?” I asked her. She chuckled.
“I’d fall for you” she responded. I stared at her as she answered that quickly. She’d jump from her Blake to me that fast… “So why can’t you just fall for me? I’m the same as your Leanna” she added. I shook my head.
“No you’re not. You’re nothing like her, you’re evil just like Don” I answered as I sat back down. I couldn’t believe she asked me that. “Even if you look like her, you’re nothing like her” I repeated as I lowered my head to the desk again. She laughed a bit and then the room went silent for a few minutes. I heard the door open and footsteps walk in and I knew exactly who they were. Who else would be walking in to talk to me? I looked up and saw Don and the other Blake following behind him.

“So, still down from loosing your precious lover?” he asked with a laugh. Blake and Leanna laughed along with him. I growled in anger, and would have attacked him if my wrists weren’t tied together behind my back. “Oh settle down, you’ve got a perfectly beautiful Leanna right here” he said as he placed his hands on her shoulder and leaned over her head, looking at me still.
“Nah, he doesn’t want me. Says I’m evil like you. You’re not evil boss” she said looking up at him. He smiled and then moved around the table to his chair at the head of it. Blake took a seat next to Leanna. I didn’t pay any attention to the clones, my eyes followed Don only. He was still holding the gun he had killed my Leanna with.
“Alright, so here’s the deal Blake” he began, looking at me, but playing with the gun in his hands at the same time. “I’m going to kill you, with this gun, and then I’ll bury you with your lover so you two can still be together in the next life, and then I’m going to kill your clones” he continued. At that the clones looked at him in complete shock.
“What!?” my clone asked as he stood up, obviously furious at this plan. Don looked over at the clones before continuing.
“You two know too much as well now, I’ve had to tell you both everything about all of this, and you still have the ability to put me out of business, so I’ve got to replace you with two clones of you again so that I can continue my work without interruptions” he explained. Leanna didn’t see all that concerned about it. I think she was too interested in me; she never took her eyes off of me. Blake on the other hand wouldn’t shut up about it now.
“That’s ridiculous; can’t we just stay out of your way? We won’t say anything” he asked. He was trying the same route I had taken a few hours ago in Don’s office. I didn’t think it would get him any further than it got me.
“Sorry” Don said as he held up the gun at my clone. “You’ll go first” he said with his finger ready on the trigger, “If you don’t shut up now and let me finish what I came here to do” he added. Blake stopped talking and took his seat again, mumbling under his breath. Don shook his head. “And that’s why I’m getting rid of you, you’re taking after the real Blake here, and I can’t have that” he finished as he turned to look at me again. I was still looking at him, still furious at him for everything he had done to me up to this point.
“You won’t get away with this” I said, very annoyed like.
“Why won’t I? I’ve gotten away with it so far” he responded with a laugh.
“There are other people out there that share my feelings towards this company, they’ll stop you” I said. It was true, remember those Religious Folk that I told you about a few days back? The ones that at first I thought had killed Don? Yeah, those ones, there was a huge group of them that had banned together to form a group that basically just tried to stop this company. Whenever Don went home or came in the morning, he had stickers all over his car that these Protestors had put there. That’s how much they hated him.

“Oh, those people. They’re no real threat to me. They just walk around with cardboard on sticks yelling out random stuff” he said with a roll of his eyes. He wasn’t too worried about anything other than me or Leanna getting in the way of him getting insanely rich. I had nothing else to say, I didn’t know what to say, nor did I want to say anything. He didn’t seem too worried about anything, so regardless what I tried to say to him, he’d shake it off like it was a bug on his shoulder or something. “You know what? Come with me, I want to show you something” Don said as he stood up and walked around to me. He was still holding that gun in his hand, so I kind of had to go with him, anything that would stall the process of me dying. He grabbed my arm and pulled me over to the other side of the table, and then forced my clone and Leanna to hold onto me. He led the three of us out of the Meeting Room and down back towards his office. Opening the door to his office he led us behind his desk where he pulled a random book from the bookshelf which caused it to move backwards and swing around, revealing another hallway. I stood there, as shocked as the clones were at the site of this. So this was where he hid his secret laboratory that had been rumoured about for so long.
“So this is where you’ve been conducting your experiments, huh Don?” I asked as I walked with the two clones behind him into the darkening corridor. Eventually the bookcase moved back into its original location and the corridor got pitch black. I was surprised that Don could tell where he was taking us, but I guess after being down here so many times that he’d got it memorized by now.
“Yes, this is where. I built this shortly after this building was finished, before I even started the company. I knew that eventually this would be happening and that I’d need a place to be able to do my work in private” he explained as he pushed against something, that I couldn’t see because it was so dark. The wall in front of him opened up revealing a very large Laboratory. I walked in with the Clones still holding onto my arms and looked around. This had been here, under my nose since the day I had started working here? I couldn’t believe it at all. We at first walked across this tank of water. It had a bridge down the center of it that eventually turned into stairs that descended to the floor below which had all the equipment on it, all the machinery.

“Say hello to my babies” he said as we walked over the tanks. I looked below and was shocked to see what I saw in the water. The tanks were filled with inanimate corpses. They were basically vessels without a soul, without a spirit. I shuttered a bit when I looked at them, I couldn’t believe he had this hidden away in here this whole time and neither of us ever finding out about it. After a while of walking across this tank, we made it to the staircase which led down to the laboratory floor. I continued to follow the clones as they still had me tied up so I couldn’t make a run for it, and probably wouldn’t get very far had I attempted it. Don walked over to the main consol that stood in the center of the room. It looked just like the machine the cops had used on us a couple of days ago, matter fact it was the same machine, yet it had been added onto a bigger machine. I figured this was where he took people that were dying and needed to be cloned right away, rather than put them through the process of standing at the smaller machine the cop had used.
“So what are you going to do here?” I asked. I assumed he was going to kill me here, along with the two clones standing next to me, and then re-clone them right away afterwards, but I was wrong.
“Just thought I’d show you how the cloning process works” he said as he placed his palm on the screen in front of him, which activated the consol. He then pulled the gun he had out of his jacket pocket, made sure it had some ammo left in it before he held it out towards us and fired. A beam ate through my clones head till a tiny hole had been filed directly through the skull, brain, and out the other side. I turned my head and looked at the hole it made after his body fell to the ground and almost gagged. It was disturbing to look at. He then pointed the gun at Leanna’s clone, but hesitated for a moment before placing the gun back in his pocket. “I’ll let you see your boyfriend being remade first” he said. She grumbled. It was obvious she didn’t like being here anymore than I did, at this point. I wish I could have planned an escape with her, as much as I hated the fact that she wasn’t the real Leanna, I wanted out of here, and it was clear she no longer wanted to be a part of Don’s operation either.
Don began to type into the keyboard and some windows opened on the screen in front of him, couldn’t quite read what they said, but I got the assumption he was starting the cloning process of me. I was right, shortly after he had started, one of the lifeless bodies in the tank began to move. It was lifted out of the water and then placed onto a table next to where Don was standing. Now that it was out of the water, it was even more disgusting than it had been before. I was trying not to throw up from the site and stench of it, that’s how disgusted I was by it. A little arm came out of the consol, holding two discs, that looked like the ones from the smaller machine, and placed them in front of the lifeless body’s eyes. I kind of knew what it was going to do, it was going to place the image that it had taken from my mind a few days ago, or a more recent one that had been taken from the clone of me he had just killed. Giving it every memory that I would have had, any thought, any feeling, give it a soul, a spirit.
After the same bright flash it gave when it took the image, the body had a small spasm before it sat up. It still looked really weird to tell you the truth. Naked, wet, bald, really… disturbing to look at. It looked over at us and then at Don again.
“Why are you showing them this?” asked the clone. Don shrugged.
“Thought they deserved to see it eventually, despite knowing their both going to die after this anyways” Don answered.  The clone nodded his head before looking back at us. Its face slowly began to take form, hair began to grow, but it remained naked. After a few moments I realized that he had cloned himself, rather than have to kill another clone of us after it seeing us and freaking out about a second one of itself standing in the same room.

I continued to stand there, staring at the two Don’s as they stared back at us when out of the corner of my eye I spotted Bryant on the top of the tank near the tunnel we had come through to get here. How the hell did he get in here? I didn’t look up at him, in case one of the Don’s noticed my eyes look elsewhere, and then look there and see him. I kind of figured right away that he had somehow managed to follow me and was now coming to save me. Behind him was a girl, that I hadn’t seen before. I was tempted to look confused at her appearance, but again I knew if I did, they’d suspect something and maybe catch them. I watched them with the corner of my eye as they made their way down the side of the tank, very quietly and quickly. Don and his clone were still talking to each other, about what I don’t even know, wasn’t really listening. I turned and looked at Leanna, and she looked at me. She had seen Bryant and his mysterious female companion, and knew why they were here, so stayed quiet herself. Neither of the Don’s paid any attention to us looking at each other till it was too late. Bryant was holding a gun, as was his friend.
“Hands up” Bryant yelled at the two of them. They looked over at Bryant and his friend and raised their hands. A look of shock on their face. Leanna quickly ran over and stole the gun from the real Don and then held it up to them as well.
“Who the hell are you?” Don asked Bryant. Bryant smiled and then looked over at me.
“Go get him untied will you?” he asked his friend before answering Don. “We’re friends of Blake, and we’ve come to help him out of here, and get his life back” he answered. The female nodded and ran around to me, pulled out a knife and cut the ropes that were around my wrists,
“Who are you, and… how’d you guys know where I was?” I asked her. She smiled and then held her gun up at Don again.
“The names Chasity, I’m Bryant’s sister” she introduced herself. I nodded.
“Well nice to meet you, I guess” I responded. Bryant smiled a little bit.
“I followed you guys here when you left earlier last night. I waited outside for a while and when you didn’t come out, I decided I’d come in and help. I called up my Sis and we broke in. Attacked the Security Guard, watched the tapes and found out where you guys had gone” he said, then he paused for a moment as he looked over at Leanna. “Sorry you lost the real one bud” he said. I nodded my head, but this wasn’t the time nor the place to be feeling sad about that. Don stood there for a moment, he was planning something, I could tell right away by the look in his eyes as he looked around at the 4 of us surrounding him.

Then out of nowhere he pulled out another gun from another pocket and fired a blast at me. I had seen it coming a mile away and quickly jumped behind one of the other desks that were around me. Bryant, Chasity, and Leanna followed. Bryant fired a blast at Don’s clone first, destroying it before he disappeared behind a desk. “You guys think you can just end my whole operation here?” he asked as he fired more blasts at the desk I was behind. Seemed he was more interested in killing me off than the other three. Sparks flew over my head and I covered my head so that it didn’t bounce into my eyes or anything. “It doesn’t work like that you know? He pressed some more buttons on the consol and another lifeless body was pulled from the tank. Bryant poked his head out from behind his desk and fired a few blasts at the body, causing it to be set free too early and came crashing into the ground. Don cursed under his breath and fired a blast over at Bryant.  “I’ve got a lot more where that came from!” Don shouted as he pressed some more keys. Bryant chuckled.
“So do I, so do I” he said as he waited for the next clone to be lifted from the tank. None came however, so he waited for the next opportunity to fire a blast at Don. Don was furious, you could tell by the way he was typing; he was pounding on the keyboard like he was calling down an atomic bomb or something, it was hilarious.

Chapter 5

We ended up going into a standstill, with Don pounding away on the keyboard still, and the 4 of us just waiting for something to happen while hiding behind the desks still. I could see Bryant across the room, with his gun still in his hand, getting ready to fire whenever something happened that might have put us at a disadvantage. I still found this funny, all this work to keep us from intervening with his operation, and the minute he tries to remove his biggest threat, the whole situation turns against him. Chasity was sitting beside me; she had placed her gun on the floor next to her and was fiddling with her hair. I wanted to talk to her, but I knew this wasn’t the time for casual talk.
Leanna popped above the desk we were hiding behind and fired a single blast at Don, though she missed and hit the consol, which I think would have been a better target. The machine began to spark and make some weird sounds. “What have you done!?” Don yelled as he fired some blasts over at Leanna. He had just as bad aim as she did, all his shots missed by a mile or something. I wish I could have jumped in and attacked him, but with him having a gun, I knew I was at a disadvantage. Leanna ducked back behind the desk and then Bryant took the hint and fired a few blasts of his own at the consol. It made a really high pitch sound and then exploded slightly. Fire erupted into the air and caused the fire sprinklers to go off. I grumbled a little as my hair began to get wet, guess I could have used it though, the last shower I had had recently was the one I took in Prison early yesterday morning, if you could call that a shower at all, so I guess my hair could use a proper washing.

Don had a small spasm when his machine blew up in flames. “You imbecile” he cursed and fired a few blasts at Bryant, but again he missed. He was even more furious than he had been before, now that he didn’t have a keyboard to pound onto aimlessly hoping something would happen. He opened a drawer on the consol he was standing at that hadn’t be engulfed in flames and pulled out a large knife. “You asked for this!” he yelled as he turned and ran towards where Bryant had been hiding. I guess it was a good thing that Don didn’t know about Bryant’s passed, being a rapist and all, and being in prison for a lot longer than I had been in there for.
“Good luck” I shouted to Don, because he needed it if he was going up against Bryant. Don didn’t pay any attention to me and just jumped over the desk that Bryant was hiding behind and shot a few blasts, only to realize that he wasn’t even there anymore. Looking around he spotted him ducking behind another desk.
“You can’t run forever” he said as he shot a single blast at Bryant’s feet, burning off the tip of his shoe with that shot. Bryant got a pissed off look on his face as he looked at his missing half of his shoe. I couldn’t help but laugh at the look on his face, the whole situation was hilarious. Bryant crawled over to Chasity and stole her gun.
“Hey!” she shouted as he rolled over her and then disappeared behind another desk across the room. I was still trying not to laugh; he was dodging around the room like he was running from the S.W.A.T team or something. Don hadn’t moved from the desk he was standing on, he just fired random blasts at where he saw Bryant appear and then disappear again. Now Bryant had 2 guns on him, and was already at a pretty decent advantage being a criminal and all. I looked at Leanna for a moment before thinking of something.
“Hey, can I use that gun?” I asked her. She looked down at me before nodding, it was obvious by this point she was on our side. She handed me the gun and I thanked her before dodging behind the desk that Bryant was hiding behind. “Hey, I’m going to distract him, I’m sure he still wants me dead” I suggested. Bryant looked at me and grumbled a bit.
“That’s ridiculous” he said as he peeked overtop of the desk at Don across the room. “Fine, but don’t get yourself killed, you’re an important piece in this plan” he said as he lowered himself again. “Just let me know when you’re ready” he finished as he made sure both his guns had a sufficient amount of charges left. I nodded my head and then moved around some more till I was closer to where Don was. I made sure my gun had some charges as well before I stood up.
“Don, why don’t you just end this? You can’t win four against one” I said. He quickly looked at me, still furious as hell, still trying not to laugh myself. He held his gun up to me and growled before firing a charge. I stepped to the side and dodged it, but it did singe the shoulder of my shirt and a bit of my skin. I paid no attention to the pain that was shooting down my arm now and quickly began to run around room, trying to make Don waste all his charges he had left in his gun on me.

Bryant stayed behind the desk he was hiding behind, which was good because I didn’t want him to draw any attention to himself. Don still hadn’t moved from the desk he was standing on, he knew from up there he had a better chance of seeing us and hitting us, but when you had aim like his, I don’t think that actually made a big difference. I fired a shot at Don which made him take step over, luckily he stepped the right direction. He was standing near the edge of the desk, so his foot didn’t land on anything and he lost his balance. Bryant took this opportunity to get at least one shot in on Don, standing up, he fired a single charge at Don and hit him in the side of the back. He was too far away for the charge to burn right through his body like it had with my clone earlier, but it was close enough that it burned his back pretty badly. Don wailed in pain as he lost his balance and fell off the desk and came crashing into the floor, which was now starting to fill up with water as the sprinklers were still going off. Bryant then quickly ducked behind the desk again and waited patiently for his next opportunity. I stopped running and waited for Don to get up, but from the looks of it, I don’t think he was going to.
“Come on Don, giving up already?” I asked with a small chuckle. He growled some more and sat up, one hand holding onto the burn mark on his back.
“You’re just stalling” he called to me as he shot a blast across the room at me. I moved a bit and the blast collided with the glass tank, causing a very small crack, didn’t seem like he saw the crack however, because he continued to fire at me. I continued to dodge them, causing them to crack the glass tank behind me. “Stop moving and let me hit you for once!” he ordered me, still furious as hell.
“You’re hitting something at least” I said with another laugh. He had a confused look to his face before looking at the tank behind me. I tapped the small crack with my knuckles and he freaked out even more.
“You bastard!” he yelled at me as he grabbed the edge of a desk and used it to help himself up. I laughed a bit more before pointing my gun at him.
“You’re going to end up ruining yourself this time” I joked. He was to a point; I was kind of helping though. I knew that. I hoped he would keep firing at me and destroy the tanks even more. The sprinklers were still going off and at this point I was getting annoyed with them. My hair was covering my face and I had to keep moving it so I could see what was going on and not get myself killed. The floor now had a few inches of water built up, slowly flooding, which made it harder to run and dodge the charges that were being fired at me. Bryant could have had a few good shots at Don at this point, but I guess he was waiting for a more opportune time so that he knew he would hit him. As I thought though, Don fired some more blasts at me, not even paying attention anymore to the fact he was cracking the tank behind me, but he had started firing a lot faster than he had been before, so I couldn’t stand in the same place and just side step the charges.

I was once again running through the Laboratory, causing him to waste all his charges on me once again. I eventually made it back to the desk that Chasity and Leanna were still hiding behind, somehow they weren’t too worried about the fact they were sitting in a small pool of water. They were wet enough as it was, I guess, and that it didn’t make much a difference to them. I was running out of breath by this point, running in that much water was hard work, especially in this age where you barely walked anywhere anymore. Don growled a few more times. He wasn’t enjoying himself so much. Huffing and puffing I collapsed into the water and just sat there, tuckered out. Leanna took the gun from my hand after I fell to my knees in the water and then looked over at Bryant. Now it was her turn to distract Don. She stood up and smiled over at him. Don looked at her and grumbled a bit and then fired a blast at her. He knew we were just playing with him now till he ran out of ammo, but he didn’t see to care much anymore, he just wanted to kill someone. She moved around the room, a lot easier than I had at least, dodging the charges that were being fired at her till Don gave up. He just stood there now, looking at her, still furious as hell. “You guys will run out of steam eventually” he said as he turned back to look in the direction we were all hiding. As true as that was, we still had him outnumbered. He knew he was lost, but kept on fighting anyways, just like any of us would do as well.
I was starting to get really annoyed at the sprinklers by this point. “Why haven’t those sprinklers turned off yet?!” I asked, no one in particular. Chasity being the only one near me at the time, shrugged her shoulders, she was still playing with her hair. Didn’t like to talk much it seemed to me.. No one could give me a response so I just stopped talking, took a seat in the water across from Chasity and just tried to catch my breath.
Leanna took a shot at Don, this time almost hitting him, which caused him to turn back to face her and fire some more shots at her. She was standing by the tanks so moved back and forth, causing him to once again hit the cracks he had made from shooting me, making them bigger. He cursed under his breath again before once again giving up on shooting at her. I think we were all tired of this and just wanted it to end, it was going anywhere very fast and was getting on all of our nerves. I could see Bryant behind his desk, he looked like he just wanted to shoot Don right now, but knew with him looking in their direction he’d probably dodge the shots, causing Bryant to waste his own charges.

This kind of just went on and on until we were all out of charges. The 4 of us were hiding behind the same desk and Don was on top of the tanks. He had gone up there hoping he’d get a better view of what we were doing I guess, but I don’t think it gave him much more of an advantage. He kept firing charges down at us, sending sparks all over the place, wasting his ammo. I don’t know what came over me then though, either the fact that it was still raining in the room, or that we had been sitting here doing nothing for hours now, but I decided I’d act, I decided that I’d finally put an end to this madness and get the hell out of here. I spotted a metal tube that was floating in the water that was now almost knee high, I picked it up and got an idea. I didn’t really tell the others what I was going to do, I just got up and did it. I was still holding my gun in my hand as well, though it was out of ammo along with the rest of our guns. I think only Don’s still had some ammo left in it, kind of annoying how our plan didn’t even work out in the end.
I moved from behind the desk, wielding the tube in my hands, it was fairly heavy so I needed to use both hands for it. My gun was in one of my pockets at the time. Don saw me and immediately began to fire the remaining charges at me, though I dodged around them, trying to keep my footing in the knee high water at the same time. Was hard to move in water that deep, that fast to dodge a incoming laser, it really was. He finally ran out of charges though, you could tell by the clicking sound that was coming from his gun, either that or the compressor inside that generated the electricity, that was the laser charge it fired, had jammed up. Whatever the reason was, it was a good thing because now he had to come down to me, which he did. He pulled out his little knife he had been carrying this entire time and began to run at me, despite the fact I was holding a fairly large steel tube as my weapon. Sadly enough, I lost my foot placing and tripped, falling face first into the pool of water that filled the room. I let go of the tube as well, for some reason, and it was sent flying across the room and ironically enough, came crashing into the glass tank. It crashed right through the glass, but didn’t cause enough of an impact to actually shatter the window. It just made a large whole, but filled it with itself. I raised my head and looked at it, half in the tank, half out of the tank and laughed to myself. That was the flukiest thing I had ever seen in my entire life. Don stopped where he was going and dodged the flying tube, then turned and looked at it as it crashed into the tank, I think he was going to freak out when he saw it crash right through the glass, but he settled down as the glass didn’t even shatter.

Don turned to look at me as I laid in the water still and laughed at me. “Even that attempt was pathetic Blake” he said as he held up his knife again and began to head my way. I quickly stood up and began to back away, I had nothing I could use to defend myself other than a ammo less gun in pocket. I took it out and pointed it at him, but he laughed again. “You’re empty” he said as he continued to walk towards me. At that point, I thought I was as good as dead, I had nothing to defend myself with, and he was coming at me rather quickly with a very large knife in his hand.
“Blake, duck” yelled a voice. I turned around to see Chasity standing up, holding her gun. It was empty as well, but I did as she ordered. I fell to the ground again, this time on purpose and she threw the gun. It flew through the air towards the tube that had gotten stuck in the tank’s wall. As small as the gun was, it created the remaining impact that was needed to shatter the glass, which sent a wave of water crashing through the room. Don’s face exploded as the wave crashed into him and sent him flying through the room, I quickly jumped behind a desk so that the wave didn’t crash me into anything.

Chapter 6

By this point I’m sure you can tell that I’m completely fed up with all this water. The sprinklers had been going for hours on end now, and now we had a wave of water crashing through the room, whipping things all around, it even whipped us around as well. I was hiding behind one of the desks though, facing towards where the water was coming from. So when it hit the desk I was behind, it crashed over it and just poured onto my head, rather than smash into my face and kill me, or something. At that point, I didn’t really know what had happened to the others, I hoped they had done the same as I had done and managed to get out of the way in time of the wave, only person I could see was Don, and he was dead, no doubt, by this point. The force of the wave had crashed him into the corner of one of the desks, snapping his spine in half, least that’s what it looked like. His body was bent and shattered into the weirdest position; odd thing was he was right in front of me, so I had to stare at him the entire time this was happening.
After a few seconds the water had settled and was now like chest almost neck high, combined with the almost waist high water that had been on the floor from the sprinklers.

I kind of just floated there for a moment, scared. I thought maybe the water had done the same to Bryant, Leanna, and Chasity, as it had done to Don, but after a few moments the three of them surfaced around me and I let out a sigh of relief. It’s funny though, I barely knew Chasity and Bryant, but I was glad that they had come to the rescue, and as much as I hated the clone of Leanna, I was glad she had fought with us as well. As soon as they surfaced I swam over to them and just threw my arms around them, I had tears in my eyes as well. At that moment, I thought I was going to get my life back, course I was wrong yet again. As I was hugging my new friends, Bryant pointed out something that completely destroyed me again, that large knife that Don had been holding, had somehow gotten lodged in my chest. I hadn’t even felt it, let alone knew how it managed to get there. I backed away from them, staring at it just sitting there, about mid way through my chest, almost exactly where my lungs would be located. After a few moments my brain must have acted to what it was seeing and I lurched in pain, God that hurt like hell. I wrapped one of my hands around it, but just touching it, made it hurt even more. Blood was slowly seeping between the blade and my skin and was turning the water around me a dark red colour. My breathing slowly began to slow down as it had punctured a lung, and water was slowly filling it up as the blood escaped. Leanna, as bad as I had treated her, quickly attempted to comfort me, wrapping her arms around me, she tried to get Bryant to pull the knife out, but it wouldn’t budge. They eventually moved me over to the stairs and laid me down on them, out of the water, hoping that maybe if no more water got into my lungs, I’d be alright. Bryant continued in his attempts to get the knife out of me, but it seemed it was also lodged into one of my ribs, which was causing it to be almost completely stuck in my chest.

For this entire time period, I had my eyes closed; it hurt too much to even want to concentrate on anything else other than the pain that was filling up my body now. I could hear Leanna crying, or someone crying, I thought it was Leanna, but when I opened my eyes a little bit to look, I saw that it wasn’t Leanna, but Chasity. That confused me to no end, why would she be crying over this. She was just sitting next to me on her knees, crying like mad, that the remainder of the black makeup around her eyes was being washed down her cheeks. I couldn’t stand it, why was she crying? “Why are you crying?” I asked. Course it was cut up from my own tears and lurches of pain, but I got it out none the less.
She rubbed her eyes, which turned her hands black now and then looked down at me. “Bryant…” she said, still crying, “told me about what had happened to you two…” she trailed off into more tears, “And… it just hurts me to see that even after finally doing what you had come here to do… you won’t get your life back” she finally finished. I stared at her for a few moments after she said this, it was still confusing to me, but she did have a good reason, if you look back at it now.
“Well…” I began but coughed up some blood as Bryant accidentally pushed the knife in further.
“Shit” he cursed as he quickly let go of the knife and backed up. “Sorry” he apologized as he just sat there staring down at the knife.
“At least… Don won’t be able to continue these operations” I said slowly, still coughing up blood. At that point, that was all that I really cared about, that Don no longer could continue his operations and corrupt the world with his clones. My death was merely a set back in my plan to get revenge, I knew there was a possibility of it happening, I was ready to die for this, I had just hoped that neither of us, me or Leanna, would have to die, but it seems we were both bound to die. I closed me eyes again and just stared at the back of my eyelids. I could feel my heart stopping, I could feel my lung collapsing under the weight of the water that filled it, I could feel my body just falling apart from the inside out, and… I was ready to accept it.

Just then Leanna spoke up, with a brilliant idea. After hearing her idea I opened my eyes and stared at her, I couldn’t believe I hadn’t thought of it myself. “Why don’t we just take one final scan of his memory… and use that last lifeless body in the tank to clone him?” she suggested. I normally would have objected to this, I really didn’t want to be cloned, but I’d rather live than die this early on in my life.
“Yes, please do that quickly!” I shouted out, and then coughed up more blood again. They didn’t even hesitate to get to work. Bryant dove under the water to reclaim the small machine that Don had used to take images of peoples memories, while Leanna swam over to the machine that operated the lifeless body’s that had been in the tank. I was surprised that it still work after all that water was poured onto it. Chasity just sat beside me, holding my hand. You’d think she was in love with me by the way she was acting, her make up had completely been washed down her face and her neck, and she did look kind of creepy, but attractive at the same time, and I can’t believe that I actually, for that second, thought about her like that, only hours after Leanna had been killed. I guess maybe it was just the way her long white hair looked when it was wet, combined with her makeup running down her face that gave me this thought about her. Few moments later, the lifeless body that remained in the tank, was lifted out and brought over to the stairs where I was laying. Bryant popped out of the water shortly after that with the machine that the cops had used on us earlier in the week. He pressed some random buttons on it and it came to life. I slowly, but very painfully, sat up so that it could take the picture that it needed to keep me alive. I rested my chin and stared into the discs that were in front of my eyes. I knew what was coming and didn’t flinch when the bright blue light flashed into my eyes. Course it blinded me again, like it did every time I had it happen to me.
After it was done, I fell back against the stairs and stared at the ceiling and waited.

Bryant had apparently watched what Don had done to work this machine, because he knew exactly what buttons to hit to make it work and do what he needed it to do. He pressed some more keys on the keyboard, and then placed the two discs in front of the lifeless bodies eyes and hit the enter key. The machine made the same noise it made when it took the image, but this time it placed the image into the clone’s brain. Everything just kind of went black right afterwards…

Epilogue
May 5th, 2024

The next thing I saw as was Chasity’s face. I was lying on one of the couches in the lobby of the Office. First thing I did was feel for the knife, but to my amazement it was gone, there was no whole in my chest, and it didn’t feel like my body was falling apart from the inside out. The pain that had been there moments before was still there, but there was no source of it, which confused the hell out of me. I sat up and kept my one hand on my chest where the knife would have been. “Bryant! He’s awake!” Chasity yelled to her brother. Bryant eventually appeared in the room and walked over to me.
“How you feeling buddy?” he asked as he looked down at me. I wanted to answer him, but I was still confused as hell about what was going on.
“I… don’t know” I finally did answer after a few moments of silence. Bryant and Chasity laughed a little bit at that. I then tried to stand up, but Chasity wouldn’t let me.
“You’re not wearing any clothes, I don’t think you’d want to show yourself off just yet” she said, smiling now. I looked at her, then looked down at myself, and once again realized I was naked. I basically was just sitting there with a blanket over my lower half of my body, no wonder I was shivering.
“Where are my clothes?” I asked. Bryant laughed a bit and then moved over to the coffee table in front of the other couch. He grabbed my underwear and my pants and tossed them over to me. I kind of waited for them to leave before I put them on, but I don’t think they got the message.
“Could I get some privacy?” I asked, they laughed again before leaving me alone for a few moments to get dressed. I really didn’t know why they were finding all of this funny, I really couldn’t. After I got my pants on, they returned to the room and took a seat on the coffee table in front of me. “So… what happened?” I asked them. Chasity took the liberty to answer me this time.
“Well, you got stabbed in the chest by Don at the last moment before he died” she began; I just sat on the couch and stared at her. “Then Leanna suggested that we use the last body that Don had in his tanks to transfer your memory to the body. You agreed right away, and that’s what we did” she finished. I sat there for a few moments, speechless.
“So… I’m in a Clones body?” I asked. She nodded her head. “So, where’s my real body?” I asked. She closed her eyes for a moment before letting out a soft sigh.
“Bryant took it along with Leanna’s to the cemetery and buried the two of you together” she answered. I was speechless once again.
“What happened to the Leanna that helped us?” I asked, I could remember that much, that Don had cloned Leanna and that her clone had been helping us.
“She thought you’d be better off without having to look at her as a clone, and killed herself” Chasity responded. I hadn’t wanted her to do that, but I couldn’t really do anything about it now. I continued to sit there, just staring at Chasity as she explained all of this to me.

To answer any questions you may be asking yourself at this point, I do remember everything that had happened because I was given my own memory just before I died. It may be confusing to understand at first, but it’s the truth. To answer another question, yes Chasity did have a crush on me and yes I had one on her too, but the memories of Leanna never left me alone, which is what led me to end up in this Mental Facility that I’m in at this very moment. I went completely mad 2 days after we got out of Don’s office and all of that huge ordeal was behind us, and the cops came got me and took me here cause I was apparently being disruptive and annoying, but whatever. What happened, happened, and as much as I hate the way it happened, I can’t go back and redo it, nor would I really want to.
Anyways, I must be going, I’ve over used my free time already, they’re forcing me back to my room now. So thanks a lot for listening to my little tale, and hopefully that sort of thing never happens to you.
Talk to you later.
